Tough Questions From Kids
Was Jesus Ever an Angel?
-Wally Grant
At Christmas we hear a lot about angels-the angel Gabriel told Mary she would be part of God’s plan to send His Son, Jesus, to be out Savior. A whole crowd of angels announced the good news to shepherds when Jesus was born. Angels are glorious and wondrous begins who live in Heaven with God. We celebrate their part in God’s plan-but Jesus is far greater than an angel. Angels were created by God (Psalm 148:2, 5). They are not born as babies to other angels. But Jesus was not created. He has no beginning and no end. (John 1:1, 14). Jesus took on a human body when He came to Earth (the first Christmas) but that was not the beginning of His life.
Listen to what the Bible says about Jesus in Hebrews chapter one: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being… he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.” God never told an angel “You are my Son.” And only to Jesus did God ever say, “You throne, O God, will last forever and ever…” This Christmas when you see angels on top of Christmas trees, remember that Jesus is greater than the greatest angel-He is God Almighty, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
