General Responsibilities
Performs skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment and minor construction work in the trades to ensure that facilities are properly maintained and meet CEF standards. Trains other facilities employees in facilities maintenance trades. Assists the Maintenance Manager in planning work, identifying training needs, and in project management as assigned. Duties may fall into a variety of trades, not limited to but including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, grounds and landscaping, mechanical, energy management, fire and life safety and keys/security systems.
This position carries the responsibility for a wide variety of non-routine assignments across multiple trades. This position provides input to management regarding the work, including participating in planning maintenance work, participating in project management tasks, and investigating and resolving unusual situations.
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, this position manages the daily tasks of the Grounds Crew.

Specific Responsibilities
Typical Duties and Responsibilities (May perform some or all of the duties listed below).
- Performs preventative maintenance on building systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and control systems and related components; tests system competency and component devices and evaluates performance. Assists the Maintenance Manager in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance work and recommends approaches to preventative maintenance programs.
- Repairs and maintains a variety of facilities systems, components and structures; repairs building plumbing, lo voltage and line voltage electric systems, door hardware, fie and life safety protections equipment/systems; constructs and maintains indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights and related; conducts inspections for safety.
- Maintains HVAC units; cleans and inspects all equipment, completes filter changes, lubricates, maintains and services mechanical and refrigeration and/or cooling systems.
- Coordinates maintenance of pool water sanitation and related pool environment equipment.
- May install waste, vent, and domestic water distribution systems, welds or fabricates plates, brackets or needed devices.
- Performs service and preventative maintenance on small motorized equipment engines and on automotive vehicles; troubleshoots equipment problems and identifies when appropriate for external service provider to make repairs or perform warranty work.
- Performs electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repair.
- Makes the most efficient and effective use of computerized maintenance management and service request systems; tracks and closes assigned work order; may monitor work order assigned to others and assist them in managing work orders.
- Maintains a broad working knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements related to maintenance of CEF IHQ.
- Responds to campus emergencies and closures including adverse weather to ensure that all facilities are protected and remain operations.
- Manages tasks and personnel required for regular snow and ice removal, fire systems and equipment checks and start-up operations as assigned.
- Works with the Maintenance Manager to maintain stock parts and supplies to ensure adequate amounts to minimize downtime.
- Knows and understands all safety procedures of CEF.
- On-call 24/7 to handle emergency and/or security issues.
- Maintains appropriate records and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions.
- May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes.
- Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. while performing job duties.
- Wrist, hand and finger dexterity is required to operate various equipment and materials.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
- Five years of facilities maintenance, construction, or repair experience.
- Two years of education or training, or an Associate’s Degree, in the facilities maintenance trades may substitute for two years of work experience.
- Some positions may require two years of experience in a specialized trade.
- Must have a valid driver’s license for operation of a motor vehicle in Missouri and possess an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to effectively use email and automated calendaring systems; use the assigned two-way radios; take time to keep the work area safe, clean and neat as they work; make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; learn and apply health and safety regulations; work independently with minimal supervision; understand and follow oral and written directions; optimize efficiencies provided by automated maintenance management and service request tools; work from blue prints, shop drawings and sketches; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
